Small drum made in Peru using a gourd
The top of this drum has a leather skin and includes stick to beat it with, The outer part of the drum is made from a hollowed out Gourd ( this is a type of vegetable that is grown), and the inside is scraped out and the outer case becomes hard and dry and then used to make musical instruments and bowls and decorative homewares. The top is made of a leather skin and has a decorative woven fabric trim around the edge.
This particular design on the outside has been painted in green and engraved with pictures of insects and flowers.
The sizes of this instrument vary due to the availability of the gourds. The approx size is 14cm diameter.
